The Faces We Carry: Legacy, Identity, and Becoming

The Faces We Carry: Legacy, Identity, and Becoming

This painting reflects duality — the people we are, the people we inherit, and the versions of ourselves we create to survive.

The larger figure represents ancestry, protection, wisdom, and the expectations passed through generations. The smaller figure symbolizes becoming: youth, vulnerability, and transformation. The split masks are reminders that identity is rarely singular. Most people carry multiple selves — one shown to the world and one held privately.

The surrounding flowers symbolize growth, rebirth, and beauty emerging despite struggle. Flowers bloom because of both sunlight and storms; people are not much different.

The sun behind the figures acts as illumination, representing truth and spiritual awareness. The mountains symbolize obstacles crossed by those before us, creating paths for future generations.

This piece asks:

How much of who you are belongs to you — and how much was inherited?

As an artist, I create work exploring mythology, history, emotion, and the tension between strength and vulnerability. My goal is to create paintings that feel less like images and more like conversations.
